A first ever awareness day promoting solar shading will take place this spring.
Tuesday, March 21 will see the European Solar Shading Organisation’s (ES-SO) first Global Shading Day.
It will aim to inform the public and policy makers about the human, environmental and economic benefits of solar shading.
Why is this happening?
The earth’s climate is changing, with heatwaves and heat-related deaths becoming more frequent.
Meanwhile, efficient solar shading can prevent homes and workplaces from over-heating.
Cooling a room with solar shading means there is less demand for air conditioning, delivering both economic and environmental benefits. Less artificial air cooling and lighting reduces energy costs, while air conditioning is a proven contributor to CO2 emissions and increased greenhouse gases.
Adjustable shading allows us to control the amount of sunlight in our inside spaces – which makes us happy – and help prevent glare.
On top of this, smart solar shading can help intelligently manage heat and light for the highest levels of energy efficiency.
Global Shading Day 2023 will help promote all of these facts.
Sam Shervill, of BBSA member Silent Gliss and the ES-SO marketing committee said: “This is one of those times when companies need to collaborate with one-voice to drive home the message that solar shading is has an important part to play by saving energy and helping our climate journey.
“As individual companies we focus on selling blinds, but collectively we have the ability to raise the profile of our industry and the role it plays in saving energy, improving comfort, and cooling our planet.”
