Design
Whatever the shape of window, from round portholes and angled gable ends, through to curved arches, hexagons and mansards, special shape shutters are crafted to match the opening. Having an irregular shaped window around the home requires a solution that is a bit more unique, making shaped shutters a great option.
Based on the shape of the window, the shaped shutters will be built to follow the lines and contours of the opening.
Design choices will therefore vary based on the opening, though many suppliers will offer an array of colour choices and wood stain finishes that suit most tastes in interior design. Different louvre sizes and tilt mechanisms will also affect the appearance of the shutters. BBSA members usually offer a choice of shutters that that will fit nearly all shapes of window, installed either inside or outside the recess.
Operation
Crafted from a range of different materials, shaped shutters can be operated in the following ways:
- Louvre operation methods such as centre, offset and silent tilt
- Automation and remote control options
- Hinged panels open for easy window access
- Round shapes such as portholes may be held in place with magnets and not hinged
