Design
Panel blinds are a contemporary way of providing both shading and privacy. Similar to a large vertical blind, they use strips or panels of fabric suspended from an aluminium track. These panels stack one in front of each other when the blind is retracted and overlap slightly when drawn to ensure there are no light gaps between the panels.
The panels are made using a stiffened fabric of which there is a wide range available. From plains to patterns, translucent to dim-out and even heat reflective options and stamp braids, you’re sure to find something to suit your taste.
The width and number of panels is determined by the size of your windows and your individual preference.
Operation
Panel blinds can be operated by a chain at the side of the blind or with a child safe wand operation where a wand attached to the first panel simply allows you to move the blind into place. You can even choose to have the panels stacking to one side of the opening or to both sides, giving the impression of a pair of curtains.
Window blind safety
The BBSA recommends using blinds which do not contain operating cords or chains, or which have concealed tensioned cords. These products are ‘safe by design’ and are widely available. For more information visit www.makeitsafe.org.uk.
