Residential Pleated Blinds
Popular when it comes to shaped shading in areas such as conservatories.
Design
The fabric of the blind is usually in 20mm or 25mm pleats and when it is retracted the fabric folds up into a neat stack out of the way. The fabric is attached to aluminium rails.
This type of blind can be made to pull up from the window sill or even so it’s free floating and can be moved to any position over the glazing. As these blinds are held under light tension they are ideal for use on opening windows and, because they are fitted close to the glazing, you can still use your sill.
There is an extensive range of fabrics available many with heat reflective coatings.
Operation
Like many blind styles, pleated blinds can be manually or electrically operated using low voltage motors.
For roof blinds the pleated fabric provides strength so it can be cut to suit the shaped glazing in many conservatories. In this situation the blinds tend to be operated by a telescopic rod but motorisation via low voltage motors and remote control is also available.
Window blind safety
The BBSA recommends using blinds which do not contain operating cords or chains, or which have concealed tensioned cords. These products are ‘safe by design’ and are widely available. For more information visit www.makeitsafe.org.uk.
