Design
Insect screens can be used on all types of windows and doors to keep flies, wasps, moths, mosquitoes, and other insects outside, while still letting fresh air in.
Most insect screens use a roller blind type system and a fine, mesh screen which tends to be made of fibreglass. They are available in wide range of colours to match your branding and can be washed in soapy water to keep hygiene standards high. They run inside channels either side of the screen and are flush fitting with the bottom rail. When this is fully closed, it provides complete protection. When not in use, the screen is protected and out of sight, preserving your view.
Operation
Most insect screens are manually operated, but motorisation is possible.
Window blind safety
The BBSA recommends using blinds which do not contain operating cords or chains, or which have concealed tensioned cords. These products are ‘safe by design’ and are widely available. For more information visit www.makeitsafe.org.uk.
Comfort and energy saving
Insect screens have been traditionally used in commercial buildings where food preparation is involved but are becoming more popular with comfort in mind because they allow ventilation while keeping insects out. When fitted to folding door systems, businesses can carry-on using lights without having to worrying about moths disturbing the evening.
